Judge Groves Receives First Valeria A. Harper Cultural Competence in Mental Health Award

Judge Groves MHSD Cleveland Municipal Court Mental Health Specialized Docket Judge Emanuella Groves received the Valeria A. Harper Cultural Competence in Mental Health Award on Thursday May 10, 2018 at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Greater Cleveland Annual Meeting.

Judge Groves is the first recipient of this award which honors former Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board CEO Valeria A. Harper. For more than thirty-five years, Ms. Harper was a staunch advocate for those living with mental illness and substance use disorders in Cuyahoga County.

The Cleveland Municipal Court’s Mental Health Docket has been under the direction of Judge Groves since October, 2016. Under her leadership, significant changes have been made to increase the positive impact the docket has on its participants.
