The Civil Division is comprised of Civil, General, Civil Housing, Small Claims and Trusteeship departments with the primary function of maintaining all records relating to civil actions filed in this court. The Civil Division is involved in all phases of the trial process from the initial filing of a case through the final satisfaction of that case. In addition, we also assist the general public and attorneys that utilize the services of the court.
You may file a civil action in Cleveland Municipal Court if the total amount of damages is $15,000 or less. Small Claims cases are limited to damages in the amount of $6,000 or less. In addition, the Clerk of Court processes Garnishments and Bank Attachments for the collection of funds. The jurisdiction of Cleveland Municipal Court is limited to the boundaries of the City of Cleveland and Village of Bratenahl.
All court costs are to be paid at the time of filing with cash, credit card, check, or money order.
