The Court Psychiatric Clinic, established in 1938, currently serves the Cleveland Municipal Court.  From 1938 to 1996, the Court Psychiatric Clinic jointly served the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and the Cleveland Municipal Court. 

However, the unique needs of each court led to a formal separation in 1996.  Until 1999, the Court Psychiatric Clinic operated as a separate department in service to the court.  In 1999, the clinic was placed under the Cleveland Municipal Court – Probation Department.  Although the clinic no longer operates as a separate entity it has maintained its goal of providing impartial assessments in service to the court.
