(Cleveland) --Love will be in the air and all around the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda when Mayor Justin Bibb will join Cleveland Municipal Court judges to perform weddings on a very special day - Valentine’s Day.
“I was honored to participate in such a joyous occasion last year and look forward to continuing the tradition,” said Mayor Bibb.
The ceremonies will start at 11:00 a.m. and are expected to go until 1:00 p.m.
Going outside the Justice Center for weddings on Valentine’s Day started in 2009 when that special day fell on a Saturday. A number of couples wanted to get married and the building was closed, so Judge Lauren Moore reached out to Tower City and the ceremonies were performed there until the pandemic hit and the ceremonies were performed virtually.
The mayor’s office and court personnel were involved in the staging of the event last year which included a red and white backdrop, balloons and specially decorated cupcakes for the couples.
Any couple interested must arrange for their marriage license in advance, which can be obtained at the Cuyahoga County Courthouse, located on One Lakeside Avenue, Room 146. There is a $60.00 charge for the license which can be paid in cash or by credit or debit card.
Couples must then register and pay a $20.00 dollar certificate fee to the Cleveland Clerk of Court, located on the second floor of the Justice Center. The Cleveland Municipal Clerk of Court accepts only cash for their marriage fee.
The deadline for registration is 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025.
