Three former Cleveland Municipal Court Judges received special recognition this year during Black History Month.

The Ohio Black Judges Association led by Judges’ Emanuella Groves and Cassandra Collier-Williams gathered in the lobby of the Justice Center on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 to present a Black History Month moment at the statue commemorating former Cleveland Municipal Court judge Perry B. Jackson, the first black judge in the state of Ohio. Several dozen judges and magistrates attended and heard remarks from retired Cleveland Municipal Court judge Ronald Adrine and Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Lauren Moore. On Friday, February 25, 2022 two former Cleveland Municipal Court judges were honored at Public Auditorium as part of the City's Celebrating Our Legacy in Public Service Series.

Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb and City Council President Blaine A. Griffin were on hand to help recognize Sara J. Harper, first African American woman to graduate from Case Western Reserve University's School of Law and C. Ellen Connally, first African American woman in Ohio to be elected to the bench without first being appointed. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judges Shirley Strickland Saffold and Cassandra Collier-Williams were also present.
