On November 2, 2021 Andrea Nelson Moore was elected to a full six year term on the Cleveland Municipal Court. In doing so, she became the 18th judge to occupy the seat since it was created by the Ohio legislature in 1916.

Judge Nelson Moore’s interest in pursuing a legal career happened early in life.

“When I was around eight years old, an uncle who suffered from mental health issues ended up in jail and the judge treated him like a monster.”

That was an eye opener for her. Originally planning for a career in medicine, she changed her focus and ever since, her desire has been to assist people that are often overlooked and serve as a judge.

“Being elected Cleveland Municipal Court Judge will allow me to have a greater positive impact in our community,” she said.

A graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Baldwin Wallace University and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Judge Nelson Moore lived in Northeast Ohio her entire life and is the proud daughter of two native Clevelanders.

Judge Nelson Moore began her professional career in the City of Cleveland as a Fair Housing Coordinator and most recently as an Assistant Law Director for the Cuyahoga County Law Department. Her duties included providing legal counsel concerning the implementation and interpretation of local, state and federal legislation, codes, judicial opinions, administrative rules, defending challenges and lawsuits, negotiating settlements and actively litigating civil matters in municipal, common pleas and probate courts in Northeast Ohio.

Twenty two years as an attorney, Judge Nelson Moore served as Deputy Inspector General, Judicial Staff Attorney, Assistant County Prosecutor, Criminal Defense Attorney, Guardian Ad Litem and Volunteer Magistrate.

“I am confident that my extensive legal and courtroom experience, volunteer work within the community, and my core values of equity, justice and fairness have prepared me for this giant step in public service,” said Judge Nelson Moore.

Judge Andrea Nelson Moore is mother to one daughter, Alyssa who proudly held the Bible on the day she was sworn in as judge.
