The use of electronic monitoring or compliance tools is an emerging trend in the field of correctional planning. Cleveland Municipal Court currently uses a number of these devices e.g., House Arrest, Continuous Alcohol Monitoring, Ignition Interlock and GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) Tracking as a means of monitoring compliance of offenders and safeguarding the community. When appropriate, the Court may order the Probation Department to use electronic monitoring devices to track defendants and monitor behavior(s) that pose a significant risk to victims, the community and public safety in general. In this manner, a Probation Officer or controlling authority has the ability to monitor offender compliance with any supervision plan on a real-time basis and notify the Court or Judge directly of any deviation or failure to comply resulting in the potential for further sanctions.
