Cleveland) –For the fifth year in a row, the judges on the Cleveland Municipal Court (www.cmcoh.org) have reelected the Honorable Ronald B. Adrine to the position of Administrative and Presiding Judge.
“It’s been an honor to be in a leadership role while the court entered its next century of existence this year. We have come so far to make our community a better place and it goes without saying, there’s still plenty of work to do,” said Judge Adrine.
The Cleveland Municipal Court began operating January 2, 1912 and is the second oldest municipal court in the country. It’s also the busiest court in the state with 119,224 new cases filed last year.
Under Judge Adrine’s leadership, the court has activated and promoted over a dozen programs designed to help people deal with the real underlying problems that landed them in court in the first place. Such programs offer solutions to break a drug habit, get a drivers license back, or obtain a G.E.D. They also address the issues of mentally-challenged offenders and breaking the cycles of domestic violence and prostitution.

The Cleveland Municipal Court has jurisdiction in misdemeanor cases where the maximum sentence is one year in jail and a fine of not more than $1,000. The Court also handles the initial stages of felony proceedings prior to trial.
A life-long resident of Cleveland, Judge Adrine was elected to the Cleveland Municipal Court in 1981 and was re-elected five times without opposition. He has since become a nationally sought-after figure on the issue of domestic violence and is working to create a Family Justice Center in Northeast Ohio (www.familyjusticecenter.org).
Judge Adrine has been honored as a Distinguished Alumni of both Cleveland State University and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. In 2000, he was awarded the Ohio Bar Medal by the Ohio State Bar Association, its highest honor, in recognition of his contributions to the profession and the community.
