(Cleveland, Ohio) -- The Cuyahoga County Council has awarded the Cleveland Municipal Court $104,146 in operational support for the Veterans Treatment Docket (VTD).

Funding will be used to develop a brochure, provide bus tickets for participants of the Veterans Treatment Docket and parking reimbursement for peer mentors, purchase shirts for the peer mentors to be worn during official court hearings and to pay a portion of the salaries of the VTD coordinator, probation officer and peer mentor coordinator.

The judge who oversees the VTD, the Honorable Charles L. Patton Jr. is pleased the money will be going to assist the Court in providing services to veterans.

“Some of the funding was intended to help The Veterans Service Commission, but now a larger number of people will have access to services,” said Judge Patton, who feels the timing couldn’t be better to assist the needs of returning vets.

“Every day in the news, we hear tragic stories about our vets, from Vietnam to Afghanistan.  They honorably served us and it’s time for us to serve them.”

The purpose of the VTD is to divert court-involved veterans with substance abuse, mental illness or co-occurring disorders to the specialized docket where they have access to veterans-specific treatment and recovery support services.
