(Cleveland) – Chalk one up for the “A” Team, and while you’re at it, Team B and Team C.

For the first time in the 18 year history of the program, a Cleveland high school won first, second and third place in the annual Cleveland Mock Trial Competition, presented by the Cleveland Municipal Court, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

“I've gotten reports that say this year had the best talent ever!  It was very competitive,” remarked Judge Lauren C. Moore who oversees the program and wrote the case, which involved a hazing incident that turned tragic.

Over 350 students from 15 schools participated in 11 courtrooms at the Justice Center, Friday, May 2, 2014.  John Hays’ Team A came in first, Team C was second and Team B was third.  Finishing fourth was the Cleveland School of the Arts Team B, followed by Design Lab, while John Hays’ Team D (Science and Medicine) finished sixth.

The competition was judged by members of the bar association and court staff, led by Judge(s) Lauren Moore, Marilyn Cassidy, Emanuella Groves, Charles Patton and Ed Wade.   Common Pleas Judge Michael Astrab also assisted, along with Robert Triozzi, a former Cleveland Municipal Judge and Law Director, who started the Cleveland Mock Trial Program in 1996.
